PROGRAM:
Roberta Hayashi and Lisa L. Gorecki, attorneys in Berliner Cohen’s employment law practice, provide an overview of recent developments in federal and state case law and legislation affecting employers in the State of California. Depending upon Congressional action by the end of 2009, the program will include an overview of the new employer mandates under the Federal health care reform legislation.
Topics include:
- Recent opinions from the California Labor Commissioner relating to restructuring your workforce
- New legislation on alternative workweeks, paycheck withholdings and Cal-COBRA
- Individual liability for managers and supervisors with respect to unpaid wages
- Expansion of leave and benefits laws, particularly for military families
- Developments in discrimination claims under state and Federal laws
- Workplace privacy
PRESENTERS:
Berliner Cohen’s experienced employment law attorneys advise and represent employers and managers on a full range of legal issues affecting the workplace, including harassment and discrimination, unfair competition and trade secrets, wrongful discharge, wage and hour issues, and labor disputes. Roberta S. Hayashi has over twenty-five years experience representing Silicon Valley employers in employment and business litigation. She has trial experience in wrongful termination, discrimination, and misappropriation of trade secrets and proprietary information actions in both state and federal court.
Lisa L. Gorecki focuses on employment issues and disputes and is based in Berliner Cohen’s Merced office. She previously served as a law clerk for the Firm’s Corporate & Tax Group.
