TIME:

THE PROGRAM:
How you classify and pay your workers is a critical part of the hiring process.  If you misclassify an employee, you could be subject to State and Federal penalties.  In fact, the IRS considers employee classification one of the leading areas of non-compliance for employers.  It is important to have a basic understanding of your obligations as an employer regarding worker classification and payment of compensation and benefits.

Berliner Cohen’s breakfast briefing will provide concrete techniques and suggestions for reducing your company´s legal liability for a variety of wage and salary-related issues, including:

  • How to classify your workers, i.e. independent contractors v. employees
  • How to pay and document day laborers
  • Methods of paying employees, ranging from cash to deferred compensation
  • Tax obligations and liabilities for misclassification and/or failure to properly pay workers

THE PRESENTERS:
Christine Long and Kevin Kelley, Berliner Cohen

Christine Long, Berliner Cohen associate, represents and counsels clients in disputes ranging from hiring to post-termination competition. Her employment practice includes representing clients before both Federal and State agencies, as well as handling claims of employment discrimination, wrongful termination, and breach of contract.
