January 02, 2006
With the new year, Berliner Cohen will have a record four new partners, the law firm announced today. John F. Domingue, Harry A. Lopez, Michael L. Violanti, and Charles W. Volpe are being elevated to partner at the 58-attorney law firm with offices in San Jose and Merced.
“This is the first time in Berliner Cohen’s history that four attorneys have been promoted to partner in one year,” managing partner Andrew L. Faber said. “We have been in business since 1969. This record class size is indicative of the steady expansion of the firm’s practice areas, both in size and sophistication.”
John F. Domingue’s practice focuses on complex business litigation. Mr. Domingue joined Berliner Cohen in 1997. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Domingue worked in management with several businesses, including his own. A graduate of Leigh High School in San Jose, he received his undergraduate and law degree from Santa Clara University, both magna cum laude.
Harry A. Lopez is a member of the firm’s real estate group. Mr. Lopez maintains a broad transactional real estate practice with an emphasis on commercial leasing and acquisitions and dispositions. Mr. Lopez, who was born in San Jose and raised in Santa Clara, joined Berliner Cohen in 1999. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alan Jaroslovsky of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Santa Clara University.
Michael L. Violanti is a corporate, general business, mergers and acquisitions and private securities transactions attorney. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Mr. Violanti joined Berliner Cohen in 2002 after practicing with a San Francisco-based law firm and serving as general counsel for a San Jose-based construction services company. He has an undergraduate degree in finance and an M.B.A from Canisius College, and earned his law degree from Santa Clara University.
Charles W. Volpe’s practice includes taxation, partnership and LLC matters as well as estate planning, trusts and probate. Mr. Volpe joined Berliner Cohen in 2000 after previously serving as a partner at the Hallgrimson McNichols law firm. He also previously served as a tax attorney for a big-eight (at that time) accounting firm. Mr. Volpe earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Rutgers College, his law degree from Fordham University, and an LL.M. in Taxation from McGeorge School of Law.
