Berliner Cohen Teams Take Time Out to Volunteer in Community Day-of-Service

August 07, 2009

Berliner Cohen’s commitment to its community is more than four decades strong.  By actively supporting community agencies and nonprofit organizations, the firm puts into practice its guiding philanthropic values.  Teams of attorneys and staff at Berliner Cohen continued this practice on August 7, 2009, by volunteering at several San Jose community organizations:

Guadalupe River Park and Gardens (promotes active use of the park through education, advocacy and stewardship).  The firm’s outdoor enthusiasts worked on trail maintenance and river clean-up.  www.grpg.org

InnVision (focuses on homeless, at-risk families and individuals with housing and day programs).  Volunteers brought their artistic talents to work to assist the group on a quilt craft project to be hung in the organization’s lobby.  www.innvision.org

Sacred Heart Community Service (provides essential services and tools for self-sufficiency).  Volunteers organized and distributed donations of clothing and food and served lunch.  Berliner Cohen’s “Hungry Hearts” are continuing the firm’s commitment with an ongoing food and clothing drive as well as volunteering on a more frequent basis.  www.shcstheheart.org

Los Gatos House of Hope (supports needy Los Gatos residents through a joint project of Calvary Church, West Valley Community Services and Second Harvest Food Bank).  The firm’s painters and gardeners assisted in freshening up the inside and outside of the organization’s property.  www.houseofhope.com

“In today’s economy, the response of our great people at Berliner Cohen was simply overwhelming, from their own donations, to their time and energy spent in giving back to a community that has supported us for the past forty years,” said James Cashman, Managing Partner.  “We look forward to continuing with projects of this kind throughout this year and in years to come.”

As Mr. Cashman stated, the volunteers did not go empty-handed to their organizations’ sites.  They collected and donated multiple bags of clothing and boxes of craft supplies and canned foods for their respective organizations.  With classes beginning soon, volunteers made an extra push to provide much-needed school supplies culminating in the contribution of over 20 backpacks filled with supplies.

To complete the day’s activities, all Berliner Cohen attorneys and staff celebrated a job well done at their annual barbeque picnic.  The four organizations’ representatives also attended the barbeque where Berliner Cohen presented them with a monetary donation to assist their organizations further.

As a special surprise, attendees witnessed the premiere concert of “Partners Behaving Badly,” Berliner Cohen’s unique in-house rock band.
