Berliner Cohen to Receive Prestigious Award
November 01, 2006
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Silicon Valley Chapter and Hospice of the Valley (HOV) announce that Berliner Cohen of San Jose will receive the chapter’s Outstanding Corporate Grantmaker (less than 300 employees) award for their philanthropic efforts. The prestigious award is given to Berliner Cohen for their philanthropic efforts, ongoing community involvement with hundreds of nonprofits, and their contributions to local philanthropy.
For the past three decades, Berliner Cohen has contributed over $1 million to support hundreds of local charities. Since 1979, the firm has had a longstanding relationship with HOV, providing over $20,000, this year, in gifts that include pro bono work, and carrying on a tradition of Board involvement set by founding HOV board member Jan Berliner.
“We’re very proud and pleased that Berliner Cohen is being recognized for their philanthropic accomplishments,” says Sally Adelus, executive director of Hospice of the Valley, the nominating agency. “Their ongoing support of our mission and of other charities has been invaluable in strengthening and sustaining the work these nonprofits do in our community.”
“It’s a great honor to be nominated by Hospice of the Valley and to receive the Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley Chapter’s Outstanding Corporate Grantmaker award,” says Stan Berliner, co-founder of Berliner Cohen. “On behalf of Berliner Cohen, ‘thank you’ for this prestigious award.”
Nominations were submitted to a panel of senior fundraising and business professionals and community volunteers who scrutinized the applications for those most deserving of the award.
“The selection process was very competitive this year,” says Ragan Henninger, chair of the selections committee. “We had many excellent nominees and are very happy to select Berliner Cohen for their accomplishments.”
The award winners will be honored at the 19th Annual Philanthropy Day Awards Celebration Luncheon on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
Tickets for the luncheon are $70 per person or $700 for a table of ten. For reservations contact the chapter office at (408) 744-0412 or dawn@afpsv.org
