Berliner Cohen Joins to Help Beat Cancer at Relay for Life

June 19, 2009

Berliner Cohen is pleased to be a sponsor of and participant in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Gilroy, June 19-20, 2009, at Christmas Hill Ranch in Gilroy.  This year marks the 25th anniversary for Relay for Life, an event to celebrate the achievements of the Society in support of eliminating cancer as a major health issue.  As of the Relay’s closing ceremony, the event had brought in over $119,000 and Berliner Cohen’s team was the top team fundraiser with over $10,000.

Peggy Springgay, Berliner Cohen partner, is a team captain for the Gilroy Relay event.  In addition to the Firm’s sponsoring the overnight event, “Berliner Knitters” joined forces to knit or crochet hats for donations to support the Relay for Life’s fundraising activities, raising over $1,000 in sales.  Any hats left unsold will be donated for local chemotherapy patients.

In the 2008 Willow Glen Relay event, there were over 650 participants contributing over $175,000 for the two-day event.  Berliner Cohen team members were proud to collect over $4,500 in donations last year.

Relay for Life is an overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer, to celebrate survivors, and to raise money for the Society. Its mission is to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back.  Teams gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps.  Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
