On July 1, 2024, SB 478 (“Hidden Fees Statute”) will go into effect, requiring businesses to publish pricing for goods and services that includes all fees, except taxes and shipping costs. The law applies to a variety of industries including restaurants, food delivery services, hotels, vacation rentals, etc.
Ahead of this new law going into effect, the California Attorney General’s office recently released a FAQs sheet on how businesses can stay in compliance: SB 478 FAQs. It is critical that all relevant California businesses plan for and implement the necessary changes for price transparency either by eliminating fees or complying with the strict disclosure laws.
