LATERAL ATTORNEY - EMPLOYMENT LAW DEPARTMENT

San Jose

Berliner Cohen is seeking an experienced lateral employment law attorney with 5 -7 years of experience to join the growing Employment Law practice in San Jose. Hybrid remote work or part-time work is available for the right candidates. 

The ideal applicant will have counseled clients and litigated wage and hour cases, class action cases, as well as employment discrimination and wrongful termination matters in California state and federal courts, responded to administrative charges, and be familiar with wage laws, leave and compliance matters (FMLA, ADA, wage and hour), policy development, compliance training and managing pre-litigation disputes.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY FOR LITIGATION DEPARTMENT

San Jose

Our San Jose location has an opening for an Associate Attorney in our Litigation Department.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 2-6 years of litigation experience with interest in business, commercial, trust & estate, and real estate.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY FOR BUSINESS/CORPORATE

San Jose

Berliner Cohen, LLP is seeking a Business/Corporate Associate for its San Jose location.  The ideal candidate will have 4-7 years of experience in sophisticated transactional business matters, including demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating agreements in the areas of business formation, choice of entity work, buy/sell agreements, general corporate transactional work, and mergers and acquisitions.  An LL.M. in Taxation or experience in tax matters is not required, but it is preferred.

Excellent academic credentials, analytical, writing and communication skills are required.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Merced

Berliner Cohen, LLP seeks an experienced Attorney with interest or experience in estate planning, estate settlement, research, taxation, trust administration, and litigation for its Merced office. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience. Newer attorneys with exceptional academic credentials will also be considered. 

The successful candidate will have strong local ties, a desire to live and work in the Merced area, a strong academic background, a proven track record of strong performance, and measurable results with exceptional communication, analytical, and writing skills.  Attorneys with less than three years of experience are requested to provide unofficial law school transcripts and writing samples (3-page maximum). 

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY FOR REAL ESTATE DEPARTMENT

San Jose

Our San Jose Office has an immediate opening for a mid-level Associate Attorney in its transactional real estate group. The successful candidate will have 3-7 years of experience in sophisticated transactional real estate matters, including demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts in the areas of property acquisition/disposition, leasing, and financing. Berliner Cohen has an immediate opening for a Human Resources (HR) Advice and Counsel Attorney. A qualified candidate should have a minimum of three years of active employment law practice.

The ideal applicant will have familiarity with onboarding, discipline, and termination. The candidate should be versed in writing and advising on policies concerning California state, city and federal laws,. The successful candidate will possess a strong academic background, a proven track record of strong performance and measurable results with exceptional communication, analytical, and writing skills. The candidate will be responsible for drafting policies and procedures for businesses relating to state and federal employment laws, drafting pay plans, handbooks and discipline records. The ideal candidate will also be skilled in doing employee investigations relating to workplace harassment.

Administrative

ESTATE PLANNING/REAL ESTATE/CORPORATE PARALEGAL

Modesto

Berliner Cohen, LLP has an immediate opening for a skilled paralegal for our Corporate, Real Estate, and Estate Planning practices. Experience in at least one of those areas, and the willingness and ability to work at a high level in all three areas is a requirement for this position.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to support multiple attorneys. Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and a minimum of three years’ experience as a paralegal or combination paralegal/legal secretary. Duties will include:

  • Preparing and maintaining corporate records, including formation documents, state filings, minute books, and transaction documents.
  • Issuing shares.
  • Preparing leases and related documents.
  • Preparing basic contracts, and revising complex agreements under the direction of supervising attorneys.
  • Preparing trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and related documentation.

Berliner Cohen LLP is celebrating 52 years of success! Our downtown San Jose location has an immediate opening for a part-time or full-time Estate Planning Paralegal.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to support multiple attorneys.

Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and the ideal candidate should have 2 years’ experience as a paralegal and working knowledge of estate planning, estate administration, and probate.

Candidates who recently completed a paralegal certificate or a paralegal degree will also be considered.

LITIGATION PARALEGAL

San Jose

Our San Jose location has an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal.

Join a team of diverse professionals while assisting attorneys in handling all aspects of litigation. The qualified candidate will assist attorneys in answering interrogatories and preparing motions, complaints, briefs, and other legal documents; interviewing clients and witnesses for hearing, deposition and trial and perform all types of legal support work assigned as permitted by the rules of the State Bar.

Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required; 3 years’ experience working as a Paralegal AND Paralegal certificate or a degree in paralegal studies or the completion of at least one year of law school.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree and a Paralegal certificate from American Bar Association (ABA) approved program.

Experience Requirements: Three years' experience working in a civil litigation law firm.

Skills: Ability to work independently, see tasks through fruition, excellent attention to detail, and familiarity with electronic discovery platforms.

ESTATE PLANNING SECRETARY

San Jose

Berliner Cohen LLP has an immediate opening for a highly-skilled Estate Planning Secretary with at least five years of stable employment experience supporting multiple attorneys.

The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of MS Word with the ability to create and edit correspondence, briefs, pleadings, trust administration, probate, and preparation of estate planning documents and other legal documents. Must be proficient at e-filing and know Federal and State court rules.

Other responsibilities include maintaining attorney calendars, scheduling meetings, expense reports, check requests, and coordinating client file maintenance. Familiarity with utilizing a document management system such as NetDocs is ideal. Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment are imperative.

Qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years as a secretary in a law firm supporting multiple attorneys. The ideal candidate must have extensive calendaring, high-level organizational skills, out-of-the-box thinking, always be one-step-ahead, and build a great rapport and relationships with clients. Must be accurate, attentive to detail, able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

FILE CLERK

San Jose

Berliner Cohen, LLP has an immediate opening for a full-time File Clerk in our San Jose office.

Requirements include: a professional appearance and demeanor with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. A minimum of 3 years of office experience in a professional environment is required. Dependability and punctuality are critical factors for this role. Candidates with knowledge and experience in a similar capacity are preferred.

Experience in the legal field would be a plus! This role is a full-time position Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Organizing and filing documents for client files
  • Creating computer indexes of files

  • Working closely with attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries on general clerical projects
  • Providing break and lunch coverage for receptionist

MARKETING INTERN (PART-TIME)

San Jose

Berliner Cohen LLP has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic part-time Marketing Intern in our San Jose office. (No remote work available). Monday through Friday, 20 hours a week (hours flexible between the hours of 8-5, based on school schedule).

Requirements include a strong desire to learn and a professional drive, solid understanding of different marketing techniques, excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, marketing software, and online applications. Must have a passion for marketing and best practices. Time management, organization, and the ability to follow through are vital to success in this role.

Must be currently enrolled in obtaining a degree in marketing, i.e., bachelor's or master's degree, or recently graduated, and looking for an entry-level position.

Experience in the legal field would be a plus! This is a full-time position Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
