As a member of Berliner Cohen’s Tax and Corporate Group, Mr. Shewey counsels individuals and business entities on a wide range of tax and business matters. Mr. Shewey's tax practice includes both tax transactions and tax controversy before the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Tax Court, Franchise Tax Board, California State Board of Equalization, and Employment Development Department. He has represented many clients in offshore asset reporting compliance, including FBAR filing.
Mr. Shewey advises companies and investors on formation, venture capital financing, merger, and general corporate matters. His business clients range from small startups to established technology companies.
Before joining Berliner Cohen, Mr. Shewey practiced law as an associate at a Palo Alto law firm where he drafted and negotiated venture capital financings as counsel for both investors and technology companies, prepared SEC filings and disclosures, and assisted in merger transactions. He also practiced law at a New York law firm where he drafted merger documents, prepared SEC filings, and provided counsel on employee benefits.
