Berliner Cohen was pleased to once again participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Gilroy. The event was held at the Christmas Hill Ranch, Saturday, June 23, 2012 through Sunday morning, June 24, 2012.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour walking event, signifying that “cancer never sleeps.” Its goals are to create awareness, raise money for the cure, and bring together anyone and everyone who has been touched by cancer.
As a Silver Sponsor, Berliner Cohen’s team raised over $12,000 in donations, with contributions still coming in. “Every little bit helps in supporting community events, the American Cancer Society, and the cure for cancer, and it starts with exceptional individuals in our firm," stated Peggy Springgay, Berliner Cohen partner and a Relay for Life team captain.
Ms. Springgay (center) worked with our Berliner Cohen knitting group, led by Rosie Moreno, Diane Herrick, Gayle Hittle and Maria Gonzalez, who knitted shawls and other items to assist in fundraising for the team, The shawls, as well as a lap blanket donated to an oncologist’s office for chemotherapy patients, brought in over $1200. Not available for photo: Lou Mixon, who was responsible for coordinating and accepting donations for little "rubber duckies" sporting different outfits, which turned out to be a popular fund raising effort.
